GREAT BEND, Kansas -- Carol Ann (Wenger) Witt was born on March 16, 1930 in Oberlin, Kansas to Lewis and Elena (Carlson) Wenger. She passed away Monday, April 30, 2012, in Great Bend, Kansas, at the age of 82 years.

She attended the Oberlin schools, graduating from Decatur Community High School in 1948. Carol then attended Nebraska Wesleyan University for one year. She loved music and loved to entertain with her beautiful voice in choirs, choruses, and as a soloist at weddings and funerals.

On returning home from college, Carol worked at the Oberlin Lockers until her marriage to Duane Witt on Aug. 2, 1950. They began their married life together as farmers. This was disrupted for two years while Duane was in the Army and they resided in Fort Smith, Arkansas. While in Arkansas, their daughter, Luan, was born. They returned to the farm in rural Decatur County, Kansas, and another daughter, Mary Jo, and a son, Mark, were born into their family. Carol was an adoring mother, and her family came first in her life. Many happy vacations were had in the Colorado Rockies and at Lake Maloney, Nebraska. Carol was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Great Bend, a former member of Faith Lutheran Church of Oberlin, of which she served on the church council and was a past president; a 55-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star; and a founding member of the Oberlin Music Club. A weekly enjoyment she had for 17 years was working in the office on sale day at the Oberlin Livestock Sale Barn.

After her children were gone from home, Carol and her good friend, Sharon Smith, owned and operated Penn Avenue, a ladies clothing store in Oberlin. After closing the store, she worked as a CMA in the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Oberlin.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her sister, Aileen; and her brother, Virgil.

Mourning her passing are her loving husband, Duane; daughters, Luan Taylor, Prairie Village; and Mary Jo (Greg) Lohoefener, Oberlin; and son, Mark and fiancée, Barb Konrade, Great Bend; her six grandchildren, Ryan and Aaron (Nicole) Taylor; Leigh Ann (Clint) Johnson; Adam (Jeni) Lohefener; Alec and Laura Witt; and Kinser Vonderfecht; and three great-grandchildren, Georgia and Van Taylor and Ella Lohoefener.
