Three resignations, five contracts on school board agenda

McCOOK, Nebraska -- The McCook School Board of Education will be asked to approve three teacher resignations, three teaching contracts and two contracts for principals, at the regular meeting Monday night, 6:30 p.m. at the Junior High cafeteria

Teachers resigning effective the end of this school year include Denise Lee, a teacher at Central for 24 years; George Briggs, who has taught at MHS for 40 years and Kari Quigley, a special education teacher.

Briggs and Lee are applying for the Retirement Incentive Program offered by the McCook School district.

The board will also be asked to approve a contract offered to Tim Garcia for principal at McCook Elementary. Garcia currently is the assistant principal and physical education teacher at Central Elementary and head coach for the boys basketball team.

Lynda Baumbach is retiring at the end of the year as McCook Elementary principal.

Another contract the board will be asked to approve is one offered to Kate Repass, for curriculum director/principal at Central Elementary. Repass is currently the McCook Public School English Language Learners instructor, Title and Transition director.

Teaching contracts the board will be asked to approve include those for Debra Florke for eighth grade science, Kim Heimann, junior high language arts and Joshua Kershaw, seventh grade math.

The board will also discuss amending policy concerning the board's meeting time of 6:30 p.m. School board President Tom Bredvick mentioned at January's meeting regular board meeting the possibility of meeting later than 6:30 p.m., for the convenience of board members and the public.

Other business the board will conduct at Monday night's meeting include approving the school calendar for next year.

After the regular meeting, the board will meet in closed session to discuss negotiated teacher salaries for 2012-13 and 2012-14, with the board not expected to take action at this time. Also in closed session, the board will continue to discuss the sale of district property.
