McCOOK, Nebraska --Dorothy Frances Nicholson died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at the Imperial-Manor Nursing Home in Imperial, Nebraska, on the day of her 98th birthday.

She was born on Jan. 14, 1914, to Carol and Hazel (Ball) Fitch in McCook, Nebraska. Dorothy grew up in McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1931 and McCook Junior College in 1934.

Dorothy met the love of her life, Loyall William Nicholson, in Canada. They were united in marriage on Nov. 27, 1936, and enjoyed 65 happy years of marriage in McCook.

Family was her life. She especially enjoyed spending time and sharing her talents with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy had a passion for sewing, making many clothing items for family and friends. She loved to cook, bake bread, make pies, and can from her garden.

Dorothy was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook for 86 years. She was also a part of the UMW, McCook Art Guild, DAR, PEO, and the Farmerettes Club. She was a leader of 4-H clubs for 50 years, winning an award for her years of service. She also taught sewing classes at the fabric store and McCook College.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Loyall on Nov. 9, 2001; her parents, and son-in-law, Frank Bower, on Nov.15, 2008.

Dorothy is survived by daughters, Charlene and husband, Gene Jaeger of Arvada, Colorado, and Andrea Bower of McCook, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Greg Jaeger and wife Kathleen, Paul Jaeger and wife, Emli, Michele Hoehner and husband, Kyle, and Melanie Cochran and husband, Brad; 11 great-grandchildren, Henry, Amanda, Lillian, Ashley, Thorin, and William Jaeger, Elizabeth Yilk and husband, Jeremy, Justin Hoehner, Erica Siegel and husband Chris, Chad and Keithan Cochran; three greatgreat-grandchildren, Camryn and Nolan Yilk and Bryson Siegel.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with the Rev. Lance Clay officiating, Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery in McCook, Nebraska.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, at Herrmann Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given in her name.
