NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska -- David "Dave" Engbrecht, 85, died Saturday (July 9, 2011) at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

He was born Oct. 12, 1925,, to David and Tena (Duerksen) Engbrecht at their homestead near Dolton, South Dakota. He attended school in Dolton.

On Aug. 1, 1949, he married Patricia Ann Hamling; to this union, seven children were born. The family lived in Elm Creek and Curtis, Nebraska. They divorced in 1971. On May 11, 1990, he married JoAnn Baldridge. The couple lived in North Platte.

He worked as a parts man for John Deere in Elm Creek for 10 years, a steel division manager for Holdrege Seed and Farm Supply for more than 35 years; and then he was self-employed in grain handling equipment.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Johnny Hofer, Raymond Scarff and Robert Schuler; and sister-in-law, Violet Engbrecht.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn of North Platte; children, Carol and Dennis "Rock" Jones of Broken Bow, Nebraska, Nancy and Doug Shirley of Sidney, Iowa, Joyce and Charlie Hipwell of North Platte, John and Kara Engbrecht of Imperial, Nebraska, James and Lori Engbrecht of North Platte, David and Camela Engbrecht of Lebanon, Missouri, and Mary and Scott Kesterson of Thurman, Iowa; step-children, Becky and Bob Tiedeman, Jeff and Barb Baldridge and Jud and Denise Baldridge, all of North Platte, and Amy and Jonathan Hanridge of Pinetop, Arizona; brothers and sisters, Esther and Andy Ratzlaff, Marvin and Anne Engbrecht, Martha Hofer, Anna Scarff, Ben Engbrecht and Viola Schuler; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren

Funeral services are Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church in North Platte. Burial is in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens located south of North Platte.

Visitation is Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte.

Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church, Sutherland Care Center - Special Care Unit, the Goodfellow Shoe Fund or the donor's choice.
