McCOOK, Nebraska -- Following a closed-door session during a meeting, Wednesday, at McCook Community College, the Mid-Plains Community College Board of Governors moved to offer part-time hourly and salaried employees and adjunct faculty a 2 percent wage increase for 2011-12.

Full-time administration and professional staff salaries were similarly offered a 2 percent increase for those being paid more than $54,000 and a flat $1,081.60 increase for those at less than that.

The board also approved the contract for Mid-Plains Community College President, Dr. Michael Chipps. His three-year rolling contract will be extended an additional year and his salary increased $7,500 to $170,000.

Board members approved a permanent utility easement at Kelley Park. The easement will allow the city of McCook the ability to access water, sewer, and other utility line placement, as well as conduct maintenance, repair, and/or removal, over the new event center land area.

The dental assisting program, the early childhood program, the graphic design program, and the heating, ventilation and air conditioning program, were subsequently approved by the board. Board members then asked that administration submit them to the Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education for their evaluation.

The board of governors will meet next, July 27, at North Platte.
