Alberta 'Al' (Scott) Schroder Schneider

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado -- Alberta Schneider, 97, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Alberta was born in Deweese, Nebraska, to Daniel and Eva Scott on April 26, 1914. She graduated from the Deweese High School.

Alberta married William "Hook" Schroder, and they made their home in Indianola, Nebraska where they raised Sharon "Sherry" and Willa "Heidi." They enjoyed playing cards with many friends, attending sporting events, and fishing. Alberta worked at the prisoner of war camp as head telephone operator during the war. She later opened the "Cut and Curl" beauty shop which she operated for several years. Hook passed away in February of 1962.

Alberta married Gilbert Schneider of Hastings, Nebraska on May 16, 1964. She moved to Hastings in 1965, after the high school graduation of her youngest daughter, Willa. She opened a beauty shop in the Good Samaritan Home.

Gib and Al enjoyed many friends and relatives in the Hastings area. Some of their most enjoyable activities were fishing and rooting for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. A family room in their home was dubbed "The Big Red Room" and was filled with all kinds of Cornhusker memorabilia. Gib died on Jan. 13, 1992.

Alberta moved to Colorado Springs in 1994, where her eldest daughter and family resided. She continued to live an active life, taking up the game of bridge at the age of 80. She enjoyed forays to Cripple Creek, Colorado and Las Vegas, Nevada and fished several Colorado lakes.

Alberta was also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Howard; and her sisters, Hazel, Helen and Pauline.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon and husband, Mike O'Neil of Colorado Springs and their children, Kenneth, Kendra, Kevin and Kelli; daughter, Willa "Heidi" and husband, Bob McBride of Wauneta, Nebraska and their children, Robert, Marci and Nikki; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

A graveside celebration of life is at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Indianola, Thursday morning, June 2, at 11 a.m. A luncheon and ice cream social at St. Catherine's hall will follow. Please join us
