OBERLIN, Kansas -- Karl L. Wendelin, 96, formerly of Herndon, Kansas, died Sunday (Dec. 12, 2010), at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.

He was born Dec. 30, 1913, on a farm east of Herndon to Lorenz and Mary (Preisinger) Wendelin. He was raised on the farm east of Herndon and attended Herndon High School graduating in 1931.

On June 14, 1942, he married Edna Holle in Ludell, Kansas. They lived on the Wendelin family farm before moving to Herndon in 1966. He later moved to Oberlin to the Cedar Living Center.

He was a farmer.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Holly Wendelin; brother, George; sisters, Louise, Else, Paula, Rosina, and Marie.

He is survived by his sons, Lawrence and wife, Lynda Wendelin of Gothenburg, Nebraska, Bruce Wendelin of Herndon, Norman and wife, Joanne Wendelin of Oberlin, and Pat and wife, Elvera of Lindsborg, Kansas; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oberlin with the Rev. Don White officiating. Interment is in St. John's Cemetery in Herndon.

Visitation is Tuesday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Pauls Funeral Home, and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to the church.
