EDISON, Nerbaska -- Roy Lee Dawson, 59, died Monday (Nov. 8, 2010), at his home after a year long battle with cancer.

He was born April 17, 1951, in McCook, Nebraska to Lowell and Lois (Hays) Dawson. He went to country school through eighth grade and graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1969.

He was united in marriage to Kathryn Schutz on May 7, 1972, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska, to this union three children were born.

He lived on Turkey Creek, north of Edison, Nebraska all his life and raised his family there. He was a farmer and started a new career later in crop insurance. He was co-owner of Great Plains Crop Services in Bertrand, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Dawson of Edison; daughters, Renee and husband, James Lighthall of Cozad, Nebraska, and Kasi Dawson of Edison; son, Aaron and wife, Angela Dawson of Lincoln, Nebraska; sisters, Kay and husband, Wayne Farr of Johnson Lake, Nebraska, and Karen and husband, Stan Johnson of Kearney, Nebraska; brother, Richard and wife, Barbara Dawson of Johnson Lake; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services are Thursday,10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska with the Rev. James Moshier officiating. Burial is at the Arapahoe Cemetery in Arapahoe.

Viewing and visitation is Wednesday, 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe.
