KEARNEY, Nerbaska -- Dennis L. Hosick, 69, of Kearney died Saturday (June 19, 2010) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Kearney Evangelical Free Church with the Revs. Mike Shields and Ken Olenik officiating. Interment with military honors will be at the Kearney Cemetery conducted by the Navy Honors Team in conjunction with the VFW Post 759 and American Legion Post 52 of Kearney.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home in Kearney.

He was born on Jan. 26, 1941 in Curtis, Nebraska to Woodrow and Helen (McLaughlin) Hosick. He received his high school education from Colorado Springs, Colorado. He entered the U.S. Navy on Oct. 11, 1960 and was honorably discharged on Oct. 9, 1964.

He was united in marriage to DeArlin Scott on June 2, 1962 in Bellflower, California. They were blessed with two children, DeAnna and Darren. The couple lived in many places, but has resided in Kearney for the last 30 years. Dennis worked for Baldwin's as a supervisor for many years and retired with them.

He was a member of Baldwin's golf league and Vintage Wine Softball Team. He coached the Kiwanis Little League team for many years. Dennis, along with Coach Dennis Guge and Coach Tom Smith, led their team to an undefeated season. This accomplishment had not been done for 20 years. He was also commissioner for Kearney Little League in 1983. Dennis also enjoyed Nebraska football and sports, competing and watching. He loved watching his grandchildren's activities. Dennis loved his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, DeArlin of Kearney; son, Darren Hosick and wife, Donna of Lincoln; daughter, DeAnna Reeder and husband, Kirk of Kearney; grandchildren Dustin Hosick of Lincoln, and Kristine and Kory Reeder of Kearney; brothers, Darryl Hosick and wife, Freda of Farnum, Nebraska, Robert Hosick and wife, Judy of Stockville, Nebraska, and Les Hosick and wife, Jan of Wellfleet, Nebraska; sister, Illa Jo Zysset and husband, Mervin of Farnum, Nebraska; and sisters-in-law, Bennie Scott of Kearney, Hilda Padias and husband, Bill of Orange County, California, Kay Richey and husband, Jimmy of Las Vegas, Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Lana Zo Hawes of California.
