STRATTON, Nebraska -- David William Priddy, 88, died peacefully Monday, May 31, 2010 with his children by his side at El Dorado Manor in Trenton, Nebraska.

David was born in Kannapolis, Kansas on Jan. 29, 1922 to Oscar W. and Freda (Reinsert) Priddy.

David moved with his family to Salina where he attended school through the eighth grade. At that time David started working at the flour mill where his dad worked. David joined the Army in 1942. While he was at McCook Air Base he met his future wife, Lorraine. They were married at the Methodist Church in Trenton, Nebraska. on February 24, 1946, 12 days after being honorably discharged from the Army. To this union three children were born. Kay, Kathy, and Kenny. David and Lorraine spent the first year of marriage in Salina, Kansas before moving to Trenton where David farmed for his father-in-law. In 1948, they purchased a cafe in Stratton and lived for a time in the tiny house behind it. In 1949, David traded the cafe for the pool hall which he ran as Dave's Recreation for many years. He also worked as a house painter.

David was a hunter and avid fisherman. He had a great satisfaction of taking his children, grandchildren, and two oldest great granddaughters fishing. He had many fish stories to tell. He also enjoyed playing cards and wouldn't pass up a good dance. David was a permanent member of The American Legion Post 281 and a member of V.F.W. Post 9155 in Stratton, Nebraska.

David was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lorraine in 2007, daughter Kay Hill in 2009, his parents and infant brother, sister Alberta Holt, brothers Alfred and Leo Priddy, sisters-in-law Darlene Baker and Betty Richards.

Survivors include daughter Kathy Mallicoat and husband Chuck of Golden, Colorado, son Kenny Priddy and wife Florence of Stratton, Nebraska, grandchildren Lisa Frank and husband Schon of Commerce City, Colorado, Kim Priddy of McCook, Nebraska, Teresa Switzer and husband Adam of Burwell, Nebraska, Billy Mallicoat of Golden Colorado, Nathan Priddy of McCook, Nebraska, Vanessa Ahern and husband Johnny of Thornton Colorado. Keith Priddy of Stratton, Nebraska. Great Grandchildren, Nicole Mallicoat, Allison Priddy, David and Ella Switzer, Emma Ahern and Baby Switzer and Baby Ahern this coming winter. Sisters-in-law Jewell Priddy of Lindsborg, Kansas, Joy Priddy of Emporia, Kansas. Brothers-in-law Wayne Richards of McCook, Nebraska, Bill Baker of Ogden, UT; and relatives and friends including very special friends Ed and Janet Felt of Stratton, Nebraska.

Funeral services were today at the Community United Methodist Church in Stratton with the Rev. Brian Fong and the Rev. Kevin Fink officiating. Interment with military honors followed services at Rose Hill Cemetery near Stratton.
