McCOOK, Nebraska -- Esther P. Wissbaum, 100, died Wednesday May 19, 2010 at the McCook Community Hospital in McCook, Nebraska.

She was born May 18, 1910 in Rawlins County, Kansas, the daughter of the late Niels and Lillian Pearl (Lawver) Nielsen.

In 1917 the family moved to McCook where Esther grew up and graduated from McCook High School in 1928.

She worked for Granger Brothers grocery supply in McCook.

On Nov. 8, 1941, Esther married Lawrence (Larry) Wissbaum and in 1948 they owned and operated Larry's Cafe formerly known as the Coffee Cup. They retired from the restaurant business in 1959 and Larry began working for the Chrysler Corporation, retiring in 1971.

She was a long time member of the Assembly Of God Church in McCook where she served in various departments.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, on Jan. 4, 1989; parents;

and two step-daughters, Doris Martin and Judy Kulow.

Esther is survived by one daughter, Lois Jane and husband, Owen Beneda of McCook; two step-sons, Larry Lee Wissbaum of Portland, Oregon and Jack Wissbaum and wife, Ann of Charlotte, North Carolina; and several step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2010 at the Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Jamie Mockry officiating. The interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Visitation will be Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Memorials may be given in her name and left at Herrmann Funeral Home.
