BEAVER CITY, Nebraska -- Eugene Clason, 80, died Sunday at his home southeast of Beaver City.

He was born Jan. 22, 1930, in Beaver City, Nebraska to Francis and Hazel (Thomas) Clason. He was a life long resident of Furnas County, Nebraska. He attended Beaver City High School.

On June 1, 1949, he married Ruth E. Wasenius in Beaver City. He farmed all of his life southeast of Beaver City in the Precept area and was very active in the Clason farming operation up until the time of his death.

He got his pilot training at an early age, licensed at age 18. He and his wife built the Dairy Queen in Beaver City in 1968 and operated it until 1976 at which time they sold it. He started Clason Trucking Company in 1970 and operated it until the late '90s. He also bought the Sale Barn in Phillipsburg, Kansas in the mid '80s and sold it in the late '90s.

He was a life member of The Assembly of God Church at Beaver City, lately attending the Evangelical Free Church in Oxford, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Beaver City; three sons, Steven Clason and wife, Rachelle of Beaver City, Jim Clason of Hastings, Nebraska, and Lee Clason of Minden, Nebraska; five daughters, Ruth Gove of Kearney, Nebraska, Patty and husband, Ross Wolstenholm of York, Nebraska, Laura and husband, Irvin Nelson of Kearney, Bonnie and husband, Michael Wright of Stamford, Nebraska, and Susan Bayliss of Omaha, Nebraska; step-mother, Emma Clason of York; brother, Merle Dean Clason and wife, Juanita of Beaver City; two step-brothers, Kenneth Dean Lambert and wife, Marjory of Beaver City, and LeRoy Lambert and wife, Marjorie of Miller, Nebraska; 30 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, at 2:30 p.m. at The Evangelical Free Church in Oxford with the Rev. Wes Holen officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Creek Cemetery in rural Beaver City.

The viewing and visitation will be today until 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and prior to services Wednesday at the church.
