Feb. 18, 1929 - April 11, 2010

WAUNETA, Nebraska -- Phyllis Dorene (Mathews) Nordhausen, 81, died Sunday (April 11, 2010) at the Heritage of Wauneta Nursing Home in Wauneta.

She was born Feb. 18, 1929, to Clifford and Florence (Nelson) Mathews at home in the Hiawatha Community, Dundy County. She gradated from Benkelman High School in 1946.

On Aug. 28, 1949, she married Gilbert Nordhausen at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on March 19, 1950.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; her parents; son-in-law, Ron Gloy; brothers-in-law Alvin and wife, Ada, Otto and wife, Berniece, Edgar (in World War II) and wife, Viola, Floyd, Elwyn Krausnick, Jim Johnston, and Dewaine Schneider; and sister-in-law, Gladys Schneider.

Survivors include two daughters, Vicki Goings and husband, Mike of Lincoln and Pamela Gloy of Ogallala; one son, Monte Nordhausen and wife Deb of Wauneta; three sisters-in-law, Viola Krausnick, Delpha Nordhausen and Elfrieda Johnston; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were today, 10:30 a.m. (MDT), at the Redeemer Lutheran Church with the Rev. Greg Stuckwisch officiating. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta.

Visitation was Tuesday at Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta.

In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to the Wauneta Community Foundation.
