Plan OK'd for sidewalk to Walmart

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

Plans for a sidewalk along U.S. Highways 6-34 and 83 to the west end of town are moving along.

The McCook City Council approved plans and specifications Monday night at the regular meeting for the sidewalk. It will be five feet wide by four inches thick, beginning at U.S. Highways 6-34 and 83, continuing south of the highway to the intersection with Wedgewood Drive next to Walmart.

Also included in the construction will be wheelchair-accessible curbs and a pedestrian-activated light and crosswalk on the east side of the intersections of U.S. Highways 6-34 and 83. This will tie into the existing sidewalk.

The contractor who is awarded the bid does not have a specific day or time to complete the work, other than to complete it by the end of construction season, said Greg Wolford of W Designs, engineer for the project.

The city has set aside $60,000 for the sidewalk. In approving the specifications, the council set the date and time to receive bids at 2:30 p.m. on April 26.
