COLBY, Kan. -- Alfred Micek, 76, died Sunday (Jan. 3, 2010).

He was born April 25, 1933, to Timothy and Mary (Faimon) Micek. He grew up on the family farm northwest of Atwood and attended a rural school.

He attended and graduated from St. Joseph Military School in Hays, Kan., and also attended McCook Community College, studying agriculture and playing football. During this time he was drafted into the U.S. Army and upon his discharge returned to the family farm.

In 1963 he married Alyce Jean Ribordy and worked the family farm for 38 years until retiring to Colby, Kan.

He was an active member in the Sacred Hearth Catholic Church and volunteered many hours for the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his father, Timothy; mother, Mary; and brother, Jerome.

He is survived by his wife, Jean of Colby; three daughters, Zita and husband, Roy of Colby, Rose of Colby, Jeanette and husband, Mike of Pratt; two sons, Tim and wife, Deb of Colby, Tom and wife, Chandra of Hays; one brother, Leo of Atwood; and eight grandchildren.

A wake service will be Thursday, 6:30 p.m., and Funeral service will be Friday, 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Colby. Burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Colby with military rites provided by Fort Riley.
