EDISON -- Norma Laverne (Rollstin) Chapman, 94, of Arapahoe, formerly of Edison, died Monday (Sept. 21, 2009) at the Good Samaritan Society in Arapahoe.

She was born Jan. 18, 1915, at Giltner to Ralph D. and Carmen (McCoy) Rollstin. She received her education at Edison, graduating from Edison High School in 1933. She was baptized into the Christian faith at age 10 in the Edison Christian Church and remained an active member her entire life.

On Dec. 25, 1933, she married Abraham "Abe" Chapman at the Edison Christian Church parsonage. The family made their home in and around Edison except for two years, when they lived in Lexington.

They were engaged in farming and also ran the Edison roller skating rink in the 1950s. She sold Avon for 25 years. She also worked as a property assessor in Furnas County.

She moved from her home in Edison to the Good Samaritan Suites in Arapahoe in August of 2008, where she resided until her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Ben McCann; husband, Abe in 1962; son, Gary; grandsons, Ronnie and Donnie Chapman; sisters, Dorothy (McCann) Mues and her husband, Wayne and Leona (Rollstin) Gockley and her husband, Ralph; brother-in-law, Jim Hays; and grandson-in-law, Alan Amen.

Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Shaffer and husband, Bob of Edison; daughter-in-law, Norma Lee Chapman of Oxford; sister, Ruby Martin and husband, Mark of Kearney; four generations of grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services be 2 p.m., Friday at the Christian Church in Edison with the Rev. Kirk Einspahr officiating. A private family inurnment will be in the Edison Cemetery.
