LEXINGTON -- Harvey D. Hampton, 76, died Friday (Sept. 11, 2009) at his home in Lexington following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born April 20, 1933, in Mullen to Carlie and Cammie (Morrison) Hampton. He grew up in the Sandhills area. He settled in the Lexington area in the 1960s where he was a farm hand and mechanic for many area businesses.

As a mechanic, he was fixing and diagnosing every type of mechanical engine from lawnmowers to trucks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Raymond, and brothers, Kenneth and Peter.

Survivors include his daughters, Marla and husband, Charlie Weber of Cozad and Brenda and husband, Randy Hoff of Mitchell; sons, Carlie Hampton of Mitchell and Rodney and Dixie Hampton of Mitchell; brothers, Richard and wife, Hilda Hampton of Culbertson, Bruce and Esther Hampton of McCook and Chester Hampton of Mitchell; special friends and caregivers, Kelly and Bernard Smith and their two children of Elwood, Nebraska; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with the Rev. Jeff Ernstmeyer officiating. Inurnment will be in the Salem Cemetery near Elwood.
