ARAPAHOE -- Harriett J. Mues, 94, of San Angelo, Texas, died Saturday (Aug. 29, 2009).

She was born Sept. 30, 1914, in Galesburg, Kan., to James and Ruba (Barber) Gillette. She graduated high school in Chester and Parsons Junior College in Parsons, Kan. She taught school in Neosho County, Kan., and in Thayer County.

She moved to Arapahoe in 1934, and married Earl J. Mues of Arapahoe at Parsons on Oct. 30, 1935. She was a homemaker and assisted her husband in his business as a bookkeeper until his retirement. She was an accountant for Wagner's Supermarket for 13 years. He husband died Oct. 19, 1969. She then moved to Texas to be near family.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe and Trinity Lutheran Church of San Angelo. She was also a member of the Evening Guild and the Woman's Forum. She was a longtime volunteer at San Angelo State School at Carlsbad.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; daughter, Jean; son-in-law, Larry Mock; and one granddaughter, Juli Limmer.

Survivors include her sons, Jim and wife, Linda Mues of Las Cruces, N.M., and Gary and wife, Olivia Mues of Abilene, Texas; daughter, Marianne Mock of San Angelo; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Friday, 10:30 a.m., at Arapahoe Cemetery with the Vicar James Mosier officiating.

Viewing and visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe.
