PASADENA, Calif. -- Dale Norman Wurm, 72, died Thursday (Aug. 27, 2009), at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, Calif., after a short battle with cancer.

He was born Aug. 20, 1937, on the family farm in Decatur County, to George L. and Martha E. (Schrammel) Wurm.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-58, in Europe where he met his wife, Lillian Margareta Norqvist on a ferry between Denmark and Germany. They were married Nov. 22, 1958, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oberlin.

They lived in Kansas for a few years where he farmed. They moved to California where he worked for Southwestern Mutual Insurance, first as a salesman and then in management.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lawrence; and a sister, Wynemah.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian; two daughters, Lynn Goodhue and husband Gary, Christina Olson; a son, Dale and wife, Jeanne Wurm, all of California; a brother, George Wurm and wife, Ronda; two sisters, Rosa Boehm and husband, Scott of McCook and Susan McKain and husband Luke of McDonald, Kan.; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 11:30 a.m., at Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel in Covina, Calif.
