OBERLIN -- Arthur May, 90, died Saturday (June 7, 2009) at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.

He was born Jan. 11, 1919, in rural Oberlin to Ernest and Martha (Voelker) May. He grew up on the family farm northwest of Oberlin and attended Mount Pleasant and St. John's Parochial Schools and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1937.

He entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II. On May 10, 1946, he married Alice Rezner. They lived on a farm west of Oberlin in the Logan Township where he was a farmer and rancher.

He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church and Oberlin American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Martha May, brothers, Elbert and Harlan and sister, Mildred Fortin.

Survivors include his wife, Alice of Oberlin; daughter, Diane and husband, John Bremer of Oberlin; brother, Martin and wife, Evelyn May of Oberlin; brother-in-law, Jack E. Fortin of Oberlin; sister-in-law, Wilma May of Oberlin; and two granddaughters.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oberlin with the Rev. Kevin Schnakenberg officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and Thursday from 8 a.m., until time of services at the church.

Memorials may be given to the St. John's Lutheran Youth Fellowship.
