OBERLIN -- Nelda Vaughn, 90, died Friday (April 24, 2009) in Oberlin.

She was born May 14, 1918, in Decatur County to Milo F. and Edna (Whartman) Rhodes. She grew up in Decatur County near Dresden, Kan., and attended school in Dresden.

On March 3, 1935, she married William Herbert Vaughn. They lived in the Selden and Hoxie area for 10 years before moving to a farm east of Dresden in 1945. She was a homemaker. They moved to Oberlin in 1975.

She was a member of the Oberlin Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert on Nov. 22, 2001; daughter, Wilma Skubal Keith; brothers, Doran and Delbert Rhodes; sisters, Dorothy and Helen Randolph and Georgia Johnson; sons-in-law, Ed McKenna and Bob Skubal; and granddaughter, Laura Keith.

Survivors include her sons, Gary and wife, Judy Vaughn of Henderson, Colo.; daughters, Gloria McKenna of McCook and Joyce and husband, Steve Carlton of Oberlin; son-in-law, John Keith of Hill City, Kan.; brother, Milo Rhodes Jr., and wife, Darlene of Casper, Wyo.; sister-in-law, Merla Rhodes of Hays, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, 2 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Royce Leitner officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Tuesday from 8 a.m., until time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in her name.
