BARTLEY -- Loy M. Teter, 89, of Wolbach, died Saturday (April 18, 2009) at Veterans' Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.

She was born March 22, 1920, at Bartley to John F. and Edith L. (Parmalee) Teter. She received her education in Bartley.

She served in the U.S. Army Women's Army Corps from 1943 to 1948. She then furthered her education and began a career in teaching. She taught school for more than 20 years at McCook retiring in 1980. She then moved to Wolbach.

She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star for more than 68 years and served as a "Friend of the Feather" to the Most Worthy Grand Matron of O.E.S. She was also a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Mary Lois Tolin, one niece and two nephews.

Survivors include her two sisters, Joan Bordeaux of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Phyllis and husband, Tom Brusnahan of Omaha; nine nieces and nephews; and numerous grandnieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m., Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island with the Rev. William Pavuk officiating. Eastern Star memorial services will take place in conjunction with the memorial service. Burial with military honors will be at 5 p.m., in the Bartley Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Cremation was provided through Westlawn Memorial Park Crematory.

Memorials are suggested to the family.
