Lois Virginia Wilcox died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at Community Hospital in McCook at the age of 86.

She was born April 25, 1922, in Hitchcock County, near Culbertson, Neb., the daughter of the late Edward P. and Elizabeth (Lenhart) Cook. Lois grew up at Culbertson and attended Culbertson High School.

On Aug. 8, 1948, Lois married Irvin Henry Wilcox at Culbertson. They farmed and raised livestock until retiring in 1980, and moving to McCook. From 1980 to 1984, Lois arranged for drivers for Meals On Wheels. She won a trip to Hawaii through the Omega Scooter Company and it was a trip that she and her husband enjoyed.

They also enjoyed camping as members of the Good Sams Club and being around people. Her passion was playing card games, dominos and bingo with the friends she made at Hillcrest Nursing Home. Most of all she enjoyed being around her family and grandchildren.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin on Aug. 13, 2007. She had resided at Hillcrest Nursing Home since 2001.

Lois is survived by one daughter, Julie Karre and husband, Doug of McCook; two sons, Don Wilcox and wife, Lisa of Park City, Mont., and Dave Wilcox and wife, Dorene of Prescott, Wis.; grandchildren, Cheri Chapman and husband, Tom, Mandy Rowland, Emilynn Karre, Brian Peres and wife, Kim, Cody Karre and wife, Janette, Amber Zito and husband, Nate, Tony Wilcox and Nick Wilcox; great-grandchildren, Alec Karre, Chance Chapman, Aleighia Karre, Tyler Rowland, Brady Chapman, Aden Winder, Elania Karre, Elle Karre and Heather Zitto; two sisters, Marian Wilhelm of San Jose, Calif., and Georgene Sitzman of McCook; and relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook, with the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Thurman officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Memorials may be given in her name and visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., Sunday from 1 - 6 p.m., and Monday from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
