INDIANOLA -- Thomas Leo Junker of Indianola died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. He was 71 years old.

Thomas was born on July 5, 1937, at Marble, Colo., to Floyd Edward and Elizabeth Mary (Lehn) Junker.

He entered the U.S. Navy on Sept. 20, 1955, and served with the Naval Air Transport Squadron. He was honorably discharged on March 9, 1965.

On Feb. 14, 1996, he was united in marriage to Shirley Jean (Day) Potts. They made their home in Indianola.

He enjoyed the outdoors and going rock hounding. He would bring his rock treasures home and make beautiful spheres out of them.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Floyd and Elizabeth Junker; and one brother, Eddie Junker.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Junker of Indianola; two daughters, Susie and husband, Don Sawyer of Davis, Calif., and Tanya and husband, Rick Martin of Lincoln, Calif.; two step-sons, Billy Potts of Chappell and Walter Potts and wife, Judy of Minneapolis, Minn.; five step-daughters, Kay and husband, Larry Brew of Austin, Texas, Judy and husband, Randy Ekx of Gill, Colo., Linda and husband, Richard Mustion of Hershey, Diana Nash of Sutherland and Cindy and husband, Paul Schluckebier of Indianola; three brothers, Lawrence "Shorty" Junker and wife, Lynn of Beaver City, Patrick Junker and wife, Kem of Fair Oaks, Calif., and Richard "Dick" Junker of North Platte; two sisters, Marie and husband, Jim Almquist of Denver, Colo., and Connie Shively of Overton; sister-in-law, Alice Junker of Wood River; five grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; and numerous step-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in his name.

There will not be a visitation. Friends may sign his book at the funeral home during business hours or send condolences to www.carpenterbreland.com.

Memorial services will be Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, 2 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later time.
