MAYWOOD -- Richard Cox, 72, of Sutherland, formerly of Maywood, died on Friday (Dec. 12, 2008) at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

He was born on March 11, 1936, at Maywood to Richard and Rita (Bates) Cox. He graduated from Maywood High School. He served his country in the U. S. Army from January 1955-January 1958. He worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads.

He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Lions Club and St. James Catholic Church in Curtis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and ex-wife, Connie Moser.

Survivors include his two sons, Brian and wife, Leanne of Maywood and Steve and wife, Candy of North Platte; two daughters, Julie and husband, Monte Hazen of Maywood and Amy and husband, Bobby Gardner of Curtis; brother, Delson and wife, Karen of Aurora; sisters, Mae Annette and husband, Bill Schnase of Omaha and Jeanie and husband, Gene Eisenhauer of Maywood; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous extended relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Curtis with the Rev. Ferdinand Boehem officiating. Burial will be in the Maywood Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 5 p.m., at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Curtis. Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Curtis.
