Janet Beth Campbell, 80 of Grand Island, formerly of McCook, passed away Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

She was born Dec. 31, 1927, in Seward County to James Benjamin and Nellie (Brittel) Walford, Jan grew up on the family farm east of Gresham, Neb., and graduated from Gresham High School in 1945. She attended Hastings College.

On June 26, 1949, Jan married Jim Campbell at Gresham. They came to McCook in 1952, where Jim worked for Pat's Bootery and Jan worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads. In 1955, Jan and Jim purchased Vogue Clothing which they owned and operated until retiring in 1994.

She was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church and PEO chapter X.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim on April 5, 2008; her parents; two brothers, Floyd "Bud" Walford and Ben Walford; and two sisters, Helen Dey and Mae Stephensen.

Following the death of her husband Jan moved to Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island where she made many friends of the staff and residents, While at Wedgewood she was active and enjoyed exercise, yoga, craft classes and card club. She also enjoyed spending time at Brett and Tami's home with family and friends.

Jan was a kind and gentle woman who loved life, family and friends and will be missed by all.

Jan is survived by her son, Brett Campbell and wife, Tami of Grand Island; two granddaughters, Megan and Kaitlin Campbell; one brother, Bernie Walford and wife, June of York, Neb.; and relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Mary Hendricks officiating. Inurnment will be in the spring at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery at Gresham.

Memorials may be given in her name and friends may sign her register at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook during regular business hours.
