Joseph Theodore Brown

ATWOOD -- Joseph Theodore Brown, 80, died Saturday (Oct. 25, 2008) at Good Samaritan Center in Atwood.

He was born March 18, 1928, at Herndon to Wenzel and Theodora "Dora" (Barenberg) Brown. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Assumption Catholic Church in Herndon. He grew up in the Herndon and Achilles, Kan., area.

On July 9, 1949, he married Wilma Wederski in Atwood. He was a farmhand laborer.

In April of 1973, he married Geraldine Cross. On Sept, 5, 1975, he married Bernadine Mullins. They spent their married life on a farm northwest of Atwood and he worked for Duane Orten and Glenn Haller.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three wives, Wilma, Geraldine and Bernadine; children, Nyla Beall, Wenzel J. Brown and Joseph T. Brown Jr.; brothers, Emmeram, Anton, Harvey, Robert and Wenzel H.; and sister, Lillian.

Survivors include his children, Donald Lee Brown of Nixa, Mo., Wilma Jean Carman of Colby, Kan., Judy Kirby of Fort Morgan, Colo., Scott Brown of Topeka, Kan.; sisters, Alvina Gamblin of Oberlin, Delpha Sis of Atwood and Dorothy Taylor of Wauneta; brother, Thomas Brown of Atwood; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be Monday, 11 a.m., at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in rural Atwood with the Rev. Daniel Scheetz officiating. Inurnment will be a private family service.

Memorials may be given in his name. Williams Funeral Home of Atwood is in charge of arrangements.
