Richard T. Colling, 81, died Wednesday (Oct. 1, 2008) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

He was born April 15, 1927, in McCook to Bernard and Helen (Kennedy) Colling. The family lived in McCook until he was 11-years-old, when they moved to Indianola. He attended country school.

On Nov. 22, 1955, he married Alfreda Ritter in Leoville, Kan. They lived in Aurora, Ill., until 1974. They moved to North St. Paul, Minn., before moving to Galesburg, Ill., in 1984. In 1990, they returned to McCook. He worked in the single department for Burlington Northern Railroad.

He was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church of McCook and the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas Colling; six brothers, Harlan, Eugene, Frank, George, John and Jerry; and sister, Helen Martin.

Survivors include his wife, Alfreda of McCook; brother, Joe Colling and wife, Eileen of McCook; and two sisters, Catherine Blume of McCook; and Bernadine Ritter of Russell, Kan.

Services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Leoville, Kan.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m., with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin. Visitation continues on Saturday from 10 a.m., until time of service at the church.

Memorials may be given in his name.
