WAUNETA -- June Cox, 83, died Wednesday (July 30, 2008) at Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial.

She was born June 17, 1925, near Wauneta to Ward and Grace (DeGarmo) Walling. She attended school through the tenth grade, before marrying Robert L. Cox on Aug. 2, 1941, in Goodland, Kan.

The couple settled northeast of Wauneta, where they farmed for many years. She worked in Wauneta at the Jack and Jill Bakery, clerking at Jackson's Variety Store and cooking at the Steakout Restaurant. In 1982, they moved to Wauneta and made their home there until her death.

She was a long time member of the United Methodist Church of Wauneta, Rebekah's Lodge, the Red Hatters, the Grandmothers Club and several card clubs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; sisters, Nellie Haarberg, Peggy Haarberg, Gladys Grose and Irene Gerih; and brothers, Ward Walling Jr., and Robert Walling.

Survivors include two sons, Robert and wife, Maxine Cox of Grand Island and Ron Cox of Kearney; a daughter, Beverly Cox of Kersey, Colo.; a brother, Glen and wife, Lola Walling of California; a sister, Fern Duhm of California; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Saturday at United Methodist Church in Wauneta with the Rev. Kay Alnor officiating. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta.
