NORTH PLATTE -- Rudy G. Faimon, 83, of North Platte, died June 26, 2008 at Centennial Park Retirement Village surrounded by his loving family.

He was born to Bohumil and Mary (Hubl) Faimon on Sept. 21, 1924, at home, south of Stratton, Neb., where he grew up. He attended St. Joseph Military Academy in Hays, Kan., Assumption High School in Dwight, Neb., and St. Procopius College in Lisle, Ill. He returned home to help with the farm during the war years.

He married Rose Marie Janousek on Aug. 12, 1946, at St. John Nepomucene Church near Atwood, Kan. After a brief time in Lincoln, Neb., working as an assistant to the county clerk, the family returned to the farm. Rudy worked for the State of Nebraska Department of Agriculture while farming. In 1971 Rudy and Rose moved to North Platte where Rudy worked as a tax auditor for the Internal Revenue Service. In 1986 Rudy retired from the IRS and operated his own tax service until 2006.

Rudy loved music and was a talented musician. In his early years he had a polka band playing on the radio and playing for dances throughout the area. He brought much joy to others as he played the accordion, keyboard, and trumpet.

He was the organist at the BPOE for many years and a member of the St. Patrick's Church Choir. He and Rose were members of the German Club and Winter Dance Club.

Rudy was active in Toastmasters, a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, officer of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and served as State and National President of the Catholic Workman.

Rudy had a great sense of humor and always had a smile and a joke. He was a lifelong learner of foreign languages. Rudy incurred a spinal cord injury on June 26, 2006. He accepted his misfortune with courage and perseverance. He lived at Centennial Village for the past 2 years.

Rudy is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Rose; siblings, Sister Agatha Faimon and Rosie Pianalto of Hutchinson, Kan.; four children, Jim and wife, Mary Faimon of Stratton, Neb., Rita and husband, Don Otis of Omaha, Neb., Leonard and wife, Mona Faimon of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Donna and husband, Jeff Fromm of Albany, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard; and two grandchildren.

The family extends gratitude to Dr. Schwartzkopf and the staffs at Centennial and Great Plains Regional Hospice for their loving and kind care.

Christian Wake Services will be 7 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2008 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2008 also at the church with the Reverend James Novakowski officiating. Graveside Services and Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at St. John's Cemetery, rural Atwood, Kan.

Visitation will be held noon until 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.
