Sidney C. Allen

Aug. 18, 1924 - June 4, 2008

Sidney C. Allen died Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Neb., at the age of 83.

He was born Aug. 18, 1924, in Red Willow County, Neb., the son of the late Sidney Earl and Zetta May (Clement) Allen. He grew up in the Bartley and Cambridge area where he graduated from rural school.

On May 3, 1949, Sidney married Joan Charbonneau at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Belleville, Kan. They came to McCook where he spent the remainder of his life.

He worked as an over-the-road truck driver for 13 years for Burlington Truck Line before joining Better Buy at Oxford, Neb. He drove for Missouri Valley and in semi-retirement for Kugler Company.

Sidney had a passion for collecting guns and belt buckles. He enjoyed hunting and being in the outdoors. He had a small acreage on West Q Street, where he enjoyed his two small Ford tractors doing his farming.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy Martinez; two grandchildren, Kristi Allen and Jason Allen; one great-grandson, Daniel Allen; his parents; one brother, Cal Dean Allen; and two sisters, Edna Smith and Elda Buchannan.

Sidney is survived by his wife, Joan Allen of McCook; four daughters, Sherrill Thayer, Lynn Carfield and husband, Vony, Vicki Lampman and Sandra Schwab, all of McCook; three sons, Robert Allen of Culbertson, Michael Allen and wife, Brenda of McCook and Patrick Allen and wife, Diana of Herndon, Kan.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sidney's love for his family will be greatly missed.

Rosary will be Sunday at 7:30 p.m., at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 9, 2008, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook with the Rev. Gary Brethour officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in McCook.

Memorials may be given in his name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. until Monday.
