BEAVER CITY -- Helen C. Franklin, 91, formerly of Beaver City, died Monday (June 2, 2008) at Creighton Care Center at Creighton.

She was born July 20, 1916, in Newark, N.J., to Charles P. and Beulah (Joralemon) Canham. She grew up on the East Coast and graduated from Montclair High School in Montclair, N.Y., and Stoneleigh Women's Junior College. Following graduation, she worked in New York City for a couple of years.

She married Edwin H. Franklin on June 26, 1948, at her parent's home in Wyncoat, Penn. They moved to Beaver City where she worked at the Furnas County Extension Office for several years. She was also a cook at Beaver City Schools.

Her husband died May 3, 1977. She then lived with her daughters after the fall of 2000.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church at Beaver City, where she was active in the church choir, various clubs, Eastern Star, bowling and bridge. She volunteered her time to Meals on Wheels, the bloodmobile, church activities, American Legion Auxiliary and more.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Beulah Canham; husband Edwin; and brother, Pratt Canham.

Survivors include her three daughters, Jan and husband, Bruce Jorgensen of Creighton, Barb and husband, Kent Gydesen of Lexington and Margi and husband, Don Ehrke of Orleans; sister, Janet Williams of New London, N.H.; seven grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 10 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Beaver City with the Rev. Robert E. Berile Sr. and Keith Theobald officiating. Lunch will follow services and burial will be at 12 noon in Mount Hope Cemetery at Beaver City.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and prior to services on Thursday at the church.
