WRAY, Colo. -- Dorothy Elsie (Weber) Ivins, 87, died May 3, 2008, at her home in Wray, Colo.

She was born Dec. 26, 1920, on the family farm north of Culbertson to Henry H. and Anna Margaret (Bekel) Weber.

On Aug. 21, 1945, she married Melvin Ivins in McCook. They moved to New Jersey, where her husband's worked in family business. They returned to Culbertson in 1948.

Her family hosted Christmas dinner in the community of Wray, Colo., at the Methodist Fellowship Hall, so that no one would have to spend the day alone from 1972 through 1980. She served 38 to 61 people depending on the year, at no charge.

She was a member of Roving Volunteers in Christ's Service (RVICS) in 1980. She worked at the food pantry since 1990, and was an original director when the Charter of Incorporation was signed in 1998. She managed the pantry in Smithville, Texas for many years. She received many awards for her community service and worked as a volunteer at the Smithville Hospital in Texas.

She was also a member of the Wray United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the Wray Lions Auxiliary club and 55 and over club.

She worked as a volunteer at Waterfest 2008, on April 25, at the Wray School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Ivins in 1989; her parents; three brothers, Carl and wife, Esther, Ed and wife, Ruth and Walter; two sisters, Alvena and husband, Albert H. Wagner and infant sister; and infant grandson, Bradley Dean Ivins.

Survivors include her sons, Steven Ivins and wife, Rita of Wray and Jack Ivins and wife, Mary of West Point, Texas; daughters, Leah Studer of Fort Morgan, Colo., and Regina and husband, Gail Prentice of Lakehills, Texas; sister, Gladys Weimer of Fort Morgan, Colo.; sister-in-law, Lucille Weber of McCook; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be May 29, 2008, at 10 a.m., at Wray Community Building, 245 W. 4th Street in Wray.
