HERNDON -- Wynemah Cox, 71, died Sunday (March 23, 2008) at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.

She was born July 23, 1936, to George L. and Martha E. (Schrammel) Wurm in Logan Township in Decatur County. She grew up in Herndon and graduated from Herndon High School. She continued her education at Kansas City General in nurses training. She lived in Denver, before moving to Herndon in 1976.

She married Francis "Frank" Cox on April 18, 1958 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oberlin. She worked as a registered nurse at Rawlins County Health Department.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Kansas and Colorado Nurses Association and High Plains Mental Health Board.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Lawrence Wurm.

Survivors include her husband, Francis Cox of Herndon; sons, Dr. James F. Cox and wife, Lucinda of Blackstone, Va., George Cox and wife, Cheryl of Roy Wisc., and David Cox of Hays, Kan.; daughter, Roseann Domsch and husband, Mike of Atwood; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Thursday, 2 p.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oberlin. Graveside services will be prior to church services on Thursday, 10 a.m., at Kansas Veterans Cemetery in WaKeeney, Kan., with the Rev. Rick Langness officiating.

Visitation will be Wednesday 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Wynemah Cox Memorial Fund.
