DENVER, Colo. -- Donald F. Chambers Sr., 85, died March 10, 2008, at his home in Denver, Colo.

He was born July 5, 1922, in Holbrook. He married Geraldine Shepherd on Nov. 16, 1943, in Lexington.

He was known for his portrayal of Uncle Sam in many parades in Denver for many years.

He was a life member of American Legion Post 193, VFW 9014 and the Disabled American Veterans No. 7.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; three sisters; and two sons, T.C. and Kenneth.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine; three daughters, Casandra Caldwell, Connie and husband, Jim Dowling and Gloria Chisholm; three sons, Donald Jr., Russell and Darren; one brother, Bernard; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Services were Monday, March 17, 2008, at Moore-Howard Chapel in Denver, Colo. Burial was in Fort Logan National Cemetery with military honors.
