CAMBRIDGE -- Fred Edward Plourd of Cambridge died Monday, March 10, 2008, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. He was 68 years old.

Fred was born on April 3, 1939, in McCook to Alfred Matthew and Maude Olive (Johnson) Plourd.

He entered the U.S. Army on Aug. 10, 1960. He was honorably discharged on July 29, 1963. He then entered the U.S. Air Force on Nov. 5, 1963, and was honorably discharged on Aug. 19, 1964.

Fred was united in marriage to Linda Elaine Mitchem in McCook on Feb. 5, 1971. Fred was employed as a truck driver for Cornbelt Chemical Company, later VanDiest Supply Company for many years until his retirement.

He was a member of the McCook and Holbrook Veteran's of Foreign Wars and Holbrook Lyons Club.

He loved listening to country western music, especially George Jones.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Alfred and Maude Plourd; one sister, Donna Morthole and three infant sisters, Shirley, Norma and Beverly; and three brothers, William, Robert and Warren Plourd.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Plourd of Cambridge; two sons, Jason Plourd of Omaha and Charles Plourd of Lincoln; one brother, Michael Plourd and wife, Donna of North Platte; four sisters, Marge of Sochacki of Marine City, Mich., Anita and husband, Bob Denzer of Roseburg, Ore., Jean and husband, Bill Lacey of McCook and Linda and husband, Art Lilienthal of Culbertson; one granddaughter, Jordan; one grandson, Logan; and faithful dog, Lady.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook Friends may send condolences to www.carpenterbreland.com.

Funeral services will be Friday, 10 a.m., at First Assembly of God with Pastor Eddie Wright officiating. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell at 1 p.m., with military honors.
