NORTH PLATTE -- LeRoy Fisher, 79, died Friday (Feb. 8, 2008) at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

He was born Aug. 17, 1928, on a farm north of Hayes Center. He graduated from Hayes Center High School in 1946.

He enlisted in the Navy on Aug. 10, 1948, and served until Feb. 8, 1950. He reenlisted in January 1951, at the beginning of the Korean War, serving a total of five years and three months aboard the USS Mindoro Aircraft Carrier and the USS San Pablo (a converted sea plane tender).

He married Ramona M. Fisher of Lebanon. They were married on Sept. 18, 1951, in Hyattsville, Md., a suburb of Washington D.C..

After discharged from the service, they made their home in McCook and moved to North Platte in 1955. They owned and operated Shamrock Gas and Oil until 1957. When they sold the business, he entered the insurance business and retired in 2006, after 49 years They celebrated 55 years together in marriage.

He was a past member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Optimist Club, and a Mason. He also was a member of the First Baptist Church in North Platte, the American Legion, the Elks Club, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Ramona of North Platte; children, Linda Mueller and fiance, Dan Wright, Stan and wife, Sandy and Allen and wife, Linda; sister, Donna Carey; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Ethel Fisher; son, Dale; daughter, Connie; grandson, Travis Fisher. five brothers, John, Leonard, Bryson, LaVern and Loren; and sister, Marjorie Petty.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at First Baptist Church in North Platte with the Rev. Tom Wiles officiating. Burial will be at the North Platte Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m., at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte.

Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church and the Callahan Cancer Center.

Carpenter Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
