Freida Marie Matheny

OBERLIN -- Freida Marie Matheny, 82, died Thursday (Nov. 22, 2007) at Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.

She was born April 7, 1925, in Danbury to Francis Tauber Sr. and Pauline (Unger) Tauber. She grew up in Danbury and attended Danbury Public School.

She moved to Kanona, Kan. She later moved to Danbury, Lebanon and finally Oberlin. She married Cecil D. Matheny on Nov. 8, 1947, in Oberlin. She worked as a homemaker and telephone operator.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Pauline Tauber Sr.; husband, Cecil Matheny on Dec. 25, 1999; son, Raymond Matheny on Oct. 11, 1971; three brothers, Fred, Albert and Henry Tauber; grandson, Randy Matheny; and daughter-in-law, Sara Reiners.

Survivors include her sons, Gordon Matheny and wife, Juvy of Abilene, Texas and Gary Matheny and wife, Kay of Oberlin; daughters, Mary Huffaker of Eureka, Kan., and Janet Matheny of Oberlin; brothers, Francis Tauber Jr. and wife, Joyce of Hill City, Kan., and Harold Tauber and wife, Becky of Wichita, Kan.; sister, Elsie Tauber of Hutchinson; eight grandchildren; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were today at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin. Interment followed in Hamburg Cemetery in Danbury.

Memorials may be given to Freida Matheny Memorial Fund.
