Daniel Patrick O'Neil died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He was 59 years old.

Daniel was born at St. Catherine's Hospital on Aug. 5, 1948, in McCook to William P. and Catherine M. (Boehm) O'Neil. He attended St. Patrick's Grade School through the ninth grade. While there, he served as an altar boy and played basketball on the Knight's team. He graduated from McCook High School in 1966, attended McCook College, and later completed his education at the American Institute of Photography in New York City.

After college, he and Jim Liggett moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where Dan lived for the next few years. He then ventured out to travel and backpacked across the United States and two excursions through Europe. He also spent time on the island of Jamaica. Later, he moved to New York City to attend photography school. While there, Dan enjoyed the city life. He loved the arts and was blessed with the ability to draw, paint, and create metal sculptures. Dan was also a movie buff, remembering facts about the old black and white films along with modern day movies. He was an avid reader, enjoyed bicycling, and collecting music.

Preceding him in death were his father, William P. O'Neil; and grandmother, Mary Etta Boehm.

Those left behind include his mother, Katie O'Neil of McCook; three brothers, Thomas O'Neil and wife, Marilynn, of McCook, Timothy O'Neil and wife, Diane, of Glendale, Ariz., and Dennis O'Neil of Goodland, Kan.; five sisters, Peggy and husband, Dick Rogers, of McCook, Patty O'Neil of Denver, Colo., Rosemary and husband, George Dack, of East Helena, Mont., Annie and husband, Alan Carlson, of Johnstown, Colo., and Maureen O'Neil of Grand Island; 15 nieces and nephews, four great nieces and nephews, and a host of family and friends; and his beloved canine friends, Bailey and Tubby and feline friend, Sam.

Memorials will be accepted in his name to the McCook Humane Society.

Rosary will be Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, 7 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel. Memorial services will be Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, 1 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery following the service.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of the arrangements.
