HASTINGS?-- Hastings resident, Betty L. Hunt (Stratton), 67, died Tuesday Aug. 21, 2007, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be today until 9 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., at Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home.  The family will be present and a prayer service will be Friday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. 

Funeral services will be at Faith Lutheran Church (837 Chestnut, Hastings) on Saturday at 10 a.m., with Rev. Carl H Rehwaldt, Pastor Paul Dunbar and Fr. James Meysenburg officiating.  Graveside services and burial at Mount Hope Cemetery in Beaver City at 4:30 p.m.

Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home and Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial fund will be established in Betty's name to be directed to the Hastings Catholic Schools or to Faith Lutheran Church. 

Betty was born Feb. 4, 1940, in Oxford to Albert and Delilah Stratton.  She grew up in Beaver City, graduating from high school there in 1957.  She attended Hastings College where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education in 1961. 

On June 4, 1961, she married Willis D. Hunt of Edison.  She taught high school in Shelton from 1961-1963.  After a 13 year sabbatical to raise her children, Betty resumed her teaching career with the Hastings Catholic Schools where she taught business, accounting and typing classes at St. Cecilia High School. 

Betty will be remembered for her tireless energy, love of sports, professionalism and high expectations of her students.  She touched many lives during her years in the classroom and retired in 2005 after a 29-year teaching career at St. Cecilia. Betty derived her greatest joy in life from her family.  She was a loving wife, wise mother, and upstanding role model.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, sang in the church choir and was an active member of the Bible study group.   Betty was a member and past president of PEO Chapter EH, Grand Island, and Delta Kappa Gamma Professional Honorary Society.

Betty is survived by her husband, Willis; brother, Jim (Joyce) Stratton of Beaver City; children Kelli (Dave) Coover of Omaha, Steve (Tracey) Hunt of Beaver City, and Kristi Steward of Lincoln.  Other survivors are seven grandchildren, Allison Hunt, Jessica Hunt, Samuel Hunt and Dillon Hunt, all of Beaver City; William Coover, Jennifer Coover of Omaha; and Wesley Steward of Lincoln.
