HOLYOKE, Colo. -- Clarence Elmer Barth, 92, died Saturday (June 9, 2007) at the Holyoke Nursing Home.

He was born April 8, 1915, to Henry and Lydia (Hoch) Barth in Culbertson. He grew up in Culbertson, graduating from Culbertson High School in 1933. After graduation he worked for his father in retail sales and then he worked on the family farm north of Culbertson.

On April 9, 1939, he married Maxine J. Terrell. In 1943, the family moved to Chase County and in 1945, they purchased one of the first irrigation farms in Phillips County east of Holyoke where they farmed. In 1968, he retired and sold the farm. In 1969, he went to work for the Amherst Coop Elevator where he remained for another 11 years before retiring again. He lived in Holyoke for 27 years before moving to the Holyoke Assisted Living Center and later the Nursing Home.

He was a charter member of the Wray Elks and a longtime member of the Imperial Eagles.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Ira Barth and Willis Barth; sister, Leona Brown; and grandson, Grant Barth.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine; daughters, Bette Lou and husband, Eldon McCormick of Holyoke, and Jacqueline Rae and husband, Jack Geist of Omaha; sons, Terrence G. Barth and wife, Vernette of Holyoke, Colo., Dennis D. Barth and wife, Patsy of Loveland, Colo., and Larry G. Barth and wife, Janet of New Castle, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were today at Gerk Funeral Home in Holyoke. Interment followed at Holyoke Memorial Park.
