BENKELMAN -- Alphonse J. "Bunt" Reining, 88, died Saturday (May 19, 2007) at the Sarah Ann Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman.

He was born Jan. 12, 1919, at Benkelman, to Joseph and Marie (Reiman) Reining and attended country school near his home in District 66. He returned to the family farm after school.

On Oct. 24, 1945, he married Irene A. Ostdiek.

He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Benkelman, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was active on the Dundy County Museum Board.

On Nov. 17, 2000, he received the "Good Guy" Award from the Benkelman Area Chamber of Commerce.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene; sister, Veronica; brother-in-law, Paul Ogle; and sons-in-law, Philip Glassman and Robert Clarke.

Survivors include his daughters, Rosie Clarke of Eagle, Colo., Marcy Ham and husband, Tom of Benkelman, and Linda Query and husband, Roland of Bird City; sister, LaVeta "Pat" Ogle of Cheyenne, Wyo.; brothers, Carl Reining and wife, Hazel of Colorado Springs, Colo., Dalbert Reining of Everett, Wash.; and eight grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Benkelman with the Rev. Sean Redmond, celebrant. Interment will follow services at the Benkelman Cemetery.

A rosary and Vigil for the Deceased will be Wednesday, 7 p.m., at the church in Benkelman.

Visitation is Wednesday, 2-5 p.m., at Forch Funeral Chapel in Benkelman.

Memorials may be given in his name.
