OMAHA -- Wayne "Barney" Elwood Bayliss, 84, died Saturday (Feb 10, 2007) in Omaha.

He grew up in Gordon and graduated from Gordon High School.

He joined the U. S. Navy and served three years on the USS Randolph in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. After an honorable discharge from the service he returned to Nebraska and completed Barber School then opened a barbershop in Ainsworth and then Valentine.

He married Bonnie Jones on March 30, 1953, in Valentine. They moved to Indianola in 1954, where he worked as a barber and farmed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward Bayliss and granddaughters, Sara and Jennifer Lowe.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; son, Stephen Bayliss and friend, Suzanne Watson of Omaha; daughter, Gail Lowe and husband, Michael of Omaha; sons, Marvin Bayliss of Indianola and Roy Bayliss and wife, Lucia of Katy, Texas; sister, Zelma Divan and husband, Frank of Martin, S.D.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were today at 10 a.m., at United Methodist Church in Gordon, with the Rev. Corey Jenkins officiating. Burial with military honors was in the Gordon Cemetery.

Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
