Dorothy M. Bradt, died Thursday (Nov. 30, 2006) at Community Hospital in McCook at the age of 102.

She was born Dec. 2, 1903, at Odessa the daughter the late Joseph and Sarah (Underwood) Dean. She grew up in Kimball County, where she graduated from high school. She attended Kearney State College.

On Sept. 29, 1928, she married Lee Bradt at Denver, Colo. They farmed in Weld County, Colo., until purchasing a farm near Bushnell in Kimball County. They retired from farming in 1963, and moved to Loveland, Colo.

In 1973, they moved to Holdrege, before coming to McCook in 1977, where they spent the remainder of their lives.

She was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Bradt on July 17, 2006; a daughter, Lois Lea Bradt in 1937; a son-in-law, the Rev. Eldo Kirkus on Feb. 19, 1976; her parents; four brothers, Ben, Bert, Hugh and Earl Dean; and four sisters, Mary Gaumer, Olive Bourlier, Blanche Dean and Elizabeth Ohinger.

She is survived by her daughter, Jean Kirkus of McCook; two grandchildren, Terri Unger of Denver, Colo., and Kathy Kirkus of McCook; three great-grandchildren, Stacey Freeburg and husband, Sam, Stephanie Unger of Las Vegas, Nev., and Shawna Unger of Denver, Colo.; five great-great-grandchildren, Bailee, Jayden, Rylan, Cierra and Nathan; and numerous relatives and friends.

Funeral services were today at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook, with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in her name.
