WAUNETA -- Katharine "Kay" Lorence 63, died Friday (Nov. 17, 2006) at Bryan LGH?Hospital in Lincoln.

She was born July 15, 1943, at Yuma, Colo., to Floyd and Lotus (Mensendick) Mumm. She grew up and attended school in Yuma, graduating from Yuma High School in 1961. She attended McCook Community College and North Platte Community College in later years earning an LPN license.

On Oct. 1, 1961, she married Virgil Lee Lorance in Wray, Colo. They made their home in the Imperial and Wauneta communities. She worked at the Imperial Manor, Heritage of Wauneta, the Senior Center of Wauneta and Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Shirley Nelson; one brother, Daryl Mumm; and two sons, Brad and Randy Lorance.

Survivors include her husband, Virgil of Wauneta; step-father, Alonzo Higgins of Yuma, Colo.; two daughters, Kailee Kerber of Arvada, Colo., and Brenda Shill and husband, Ivan of Benkelman; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were today at the American Legion Hall in Wauneta, with the Rev. Greg Stuckwisch officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery at Wauneta.

A memorial has been established in her name.
