HAMLET -- Dale Covert 81, died Tuesday (Sept. 12, 2006) at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home in Imperial.

He was born Nov. 12, 1924, at Gibbon to Harold F. and Marjorie L. (Long) Covert. He grew up and attended school before entering the U.S. Navy on May 20, 1943, during World War II.

He returned to Kearney after his discharge in 1946. He was employed at the Hastings and Grand Island Ammunitions Depots.

On Feb. 11, 1955, he married Nellie Blair. They lived in Kearney and later moved to Hamlet. They operated a small grocery store in Hamlet until they retired.

He was a life member of the VFW Post No. 7028 of Palisade.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nellie in 1999; two sisters, Lucille Scott and infant Norma Covert.

Survivors include his daughter, Jeannie Hoff and husband, Stan of Alliance; one son, Ron and wife, Yvonne of Hot Springs, S.D.; four brothers, Darrell of Kearney, Bob and wife, Darla of Kearney, Gary and wife, Linda of Waverly, and Dick of Kearney; three sisters, Carol Archer and husband, Don of Kearney, Bernadine Scott of Kearney and Jean Criss of Gibbon; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were today at Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta, with the Rev. Marshall Erickson officiating. Interment followed in the Hamlet Cemetery at Hamlet.
