NORTH PLATTE -- Helen Rae Kamery, 92, died Friday (Aug. 25, 2006) at Linden Court in North Platte.

She was born Jan. 29, 1914, on a ranch near Brewster, to William and Effie (Ferguson) Smith. She grew up in Dunning and Brewster and graduated from Brewster High School in 1932 and Chadron Normal School, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught country schools in Blaine County.

On Jan. 31, 1942, she married Milford Kamery. They owned and operated the Jack and Jill Grocery store in Sargent for many years. In 1971, they moved to Trenton and purchased the Jack and Jill Store, operating it until their retirement in 1977. After her husband's death in 1996, she moved to Sutherland and North Platte to be closer to her daughter.

She was a long time member of the Brewster United Church of Christ and the Sargent American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milford; her parents; and one brother, Wallace Smith.

Survivors include her daughter, Julie Barger and husband, Jon of Paxton; two sons, Bill and wife, Rhonda of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mike of Trenton; sister-in-law Donna Vancura and husband, Edwin of Ord; brother-in-law Paul Kamery and wife, Jeanette of Sargent; five grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Interment will be in the Madison Square Cemetery in Taylor.

Rhoads Funeral Home of Sargent is in charge of arrangements.
