Rachel Theoda Cress, died Saturday (July 15, 2006) at Community Hospital in McCook, at the age of 72.

She was born May 20, 1934, at Lucas, Kan., the daughter of the late Balfour and Jessie (McMillen) Frost. She grew up in western Kansas and Colorado where she attended high school at Burlington, Colo.

On June 18, 1955, she married Donald Ray Cress at Goodland, Kan. They resided at Wichita, Kan., and Colorado Springs, Colo., before moving to Bird City, Kan. in 1957, where her husband was with the United States Postal Service and became Postmaster in 1970.

They moved to McCook in 2003. She enjoyed her seamstress work and handi-crafts as well as teaching Sunday School. She loved watching rodeos and especially bull riding events.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald on April 14, 2004, and one daughter, Melveta Van Artsdalen on May 4, 2000.

She is survived by her daughter, Renita Peters, of Casper, Wyo.; four sons, Vernon and wife, Penny of Garden City, Kan., Rick and wife, Wendy of Gibbon, Gary and wife, Pat of Topeka, Kan.; and Kippert "Kip" and wife, Tammy of Onaga, Kan.; 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; three brothers, Charles Frost and wife, Sheila of Ballwin, Mo., Jack Frost and wife, Joanne of West Grove, Pa., Jerry Frost and wife, Frieda of Colorado Springs Colo.; two sisters, Vereta Cunningham of Las Vegas, Nev., and Peggy Lurvey and husband, Charles of Colorado Springs, Colo.; relatives and friends.

Private family services are today at 2 p.m. at Herrman Memorial Chapel in McCook.
