FRANKLIN -- Marie Martha Osterlund died Thursday, May 4, 2006 at the Franklin Health Care Center in Franklin at the age of 106.

She was born March 9, 1900 on a farm southeast of Macon, the daughter of the late William and Mattie (Yelkin) Denendehner. Marie was baptized as an infant at the at the the Macon Methodist Church. She grew up at Franklin, where she recevied her elementary education. She was confirmed by Rev. George and became a member of the Methodist Church in 1913

On June 27, 1920, she married William C. Osterlund at the home of her parents in Franklin, with Rev. Thompson officiating. On Feb. 23, 1927, a daughter, Donna Belle Osterlund, was born.

In the early 1930s Marie and her husband operated the former Senter Park dance pavillion east of Franklin. Marie and her family lived in various communities in Nebraska, among them, Hastings, Grand Island, Lincoln and Sutton, where her husband was employed. At the end of World War II, they returned to Franklin where they owned and operated the Firestone Store. With the advent of television, they sold the store and openend a store where they sold and repaired television sets. Marie and Bill enjoyed their retirement until the death of her husband in 1982. Marie continued living alone until moving to McCook in 1994, after breaking her hip, to live with her daughter. She later move to assisted living at Willow Ridge and then to Hillcrest Nursing Home in October of 2003.

She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Donna Belle Nelson on Feb. 14, 2001; two sisters, Ethel Rosenberg and Mana Gaett; and one brother, Nobel Dependehner.

Marie is survived by one grandson, Mark Nelson and wife, Jayne; two great-grandchildren, Marta and Jaymes Nelson of Golden, Colo.; three nieces, Maxine Shepard of Hastings, Diane Poindexter of Salem, Ore., Barbara Bonham and husband, Max of Franklin; and one nephew, Bob Osterlund of Salem.

Graveside inurnment will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, in the Franklin Cemetery at Franklin with the Rev. Neil Kloppenborg officiating.
