Marjorie Naomi Mires

Marjorie Naomi Mires, 88, resident of Cedar Creek Manor, 2480 Terrebonne, Mosinee,Wis., died Friday, (April 28, 2006) at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Pallative Care Unit.

Marjorie was a long-time resident of Tacoma, Wash., until July 2005, when she moved to the Wausau area.

She was born Dec. 22, 1917, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, the daughter of William E. and Mildred (Ferguson) Fitzgerald.

In 1938, she married Elmer B. Mires. They lived in many communities between Portland, Ore., and Omaha, due to his employment with Union Pacific Railroad. Elmer preceded her in death. In 1966, she settled in Tacoma, Wash., where she was employed by Puget Sound Bank and then by Pierce County Social Services, from which she retired in 1985.

Marjorie was a member of Ladies Oriental Shrine No. 63, Eagles Auxiliary No. 3, and TACID - low-vision support group, all in Tacoma. She enjoyed many friends through these organizations, the senior center, her assisted living friends, volunteers and caregivers.

Marjorie also enjoyed listening to books on tape, and was a positive example for all who knew her and her ability to cope with her low-vision and breathing disabilities.

Survivors include her sons, Terry L. and wife, Betty Mires of Clinton, S.C., and Burton A. and wife, Mary Jane Mires of McCook; a daughter Janice R. and husband, William Tolly of Schofield, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Private memorial services were held Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at the Cedar Creek Manor in Kronenwetter. Graveside family services will be in Tacoma at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, 425 Pine Ridge Blvd., Wausau, WI, 54401 or TACID, low vision support group 6315 South 19th, Tacoma, WA, 98466. The Hayden Buettgen Funeral Home in Schofield assisted the family with the arrangements.

The family expresses appreciation to the Aspirus Pallative Care Unit and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice volunteers for their strong support and end of life services for Marjorie. A special "thank you" to the staff at Cedar Creek Manor for their special help and care for Marjorie during her residency.
